TOUR DA ATKINSONOn Saturday, August, 13th the Leaf Cross-Country met for an optional practice which consisted of a team bike ride to the neighboring town of Atkinson. The destination point was Lisa’s Place restaurant. The mission was accomplished and for the first time in many years not a single wipe out occured. Once arriving the team feasted on a delicious breakfast. Before we were finished the owner (Lisa) came up to us and shared that an unnamed patron had already agreed to pay for all of our meals including the gratuity with the condition that they must remain anonymous. After several attempts at cracking her promise she brought us a thank you card which we all signed. She will give it to this amazing generous person the next time they come in. What a wonderful thing to do. Simply stated, this was a great way to start the season as the entire team was overwhelmed by this incredible act of kindness. Hopefully, each lucky recipient will pay it forward at some point in their life.

RUNSTOCK INVADES MAQUOKETAOver the weekend of of June 8-9-10 the Geneseo Cross-Country team traveled to Maquoketa, Iowa for the annual team camp which is called Runstock. The purpose of the camp is to promote team building and run a few miles. The location of the camp was Camp Shalom. This is the 2nd year we have used Camp Shalom which offers over 311 acres of property, indoor lodging (cabins), showers (after Mr. Ford eliminated the wasp nest), and a wonderfully air conditioned and spacious dinning/main lodge. This year’s captains (Aber Fobert, Emily Ford, Marcus Gagnon, Hunter, Kuffel, Dani Manna, Maggie Schlindwin, and Jordan Starkey) were the directors of the camp and did a phenomenal job. Highlights included spelunking at the Maquoketa caves, ultimate fisbee, water balloon fights,
SUMMER TRAINING HAS BEGUNThe summer mileage challenge has officially begun. Any athlete who meet one of the following summer mileage challenges will be awarded a summer mileage T-Shirt. The training runs from June 1st through August 31st. Anyone is eligible including parents and siblings. Team runs will be on Monday’s and Wednesday’s at 6PM. We are limited by IHSA rules to meet no more than 25 times during the course of the summer including our Runstock Camp. We will meet in the south parking lot (by the band room.) Look for popsicles after most of the team runs provided by Mrs. Fredericks. On any day that the heat index is over 100 we will NOT meet. On those days we encourage team members to run earlier in the day. If that is not possible, wait until later in the evening when the temperature has dropped. Also, cross-training mileage also counts.

  • Biking (1/4 of the bike ride…40 mile ride equals a 10 mile run)
  • Soccer games or practice (for team members on the soccer team….every hour of games or practice equals 3 miles unless you are a goalie)
  • Basketball games or practice (for team members on the basketball team….every hour of games or practice equals 2 miles unless you are a goalie)
  • Swimming (every 1/4 mile is equal to 1 mile of running)
  • Ultimate Frisbee (2 miles for every hour played)
