The 7th and 8th grade boys combined to win as a team. And all the teams combined to be the overall champions of the meet. Congratulations. This is the first time since 2014 we have won the overall. Awesome job.
We want to thank all the volunteers who helped. This meet would not have ran as smooth as it did without the great help. The boosters also did a great job with the concessions, t-shirts, and parking signs. Also, the city did a great job with the no parking areas and Brian Ludwig and the city parks staff did a fabulous job with the park. If you can thank Brian and his staff, if you have a chance, that would be great. We have an incredible setting for a race.

If you missed the parent meeting here are some things parents had questions about:
Does everyone run in the meets? Yes. Everyone will run in the meets and the meets score the top 7 runners. At the conference meet, there is a top 7 girls race, a top 7 boys race, and an open race for the rest of the team. At sectionals, only the top 7 runners run from the girls team race and boys team race. The top 10 runners dress for the sectional meet and if we qualify for state, only the athletes who qualified from sectionals run.
Does my son or daughter need shoes with spikes? No, but spikes will make the athletes run faster. Later in the year we encourage the kids who are in the top 7 to wear spikes.
Can my son or daughter miss meets? Yes. The kids are in middle school and we want them to be kids. They have a choice. We understand it is a long year and families have other commitments. Understand though, the top ten kids dress for sectionals and only the top seven kids run at sectionals. If you miss a meet and someone runs faster than you, you will move down the list.
Do the kids get uniforms? Yes. We are fortunate enough to have uniforms for all the kids. We also have a warm up jacket the kids will get to wear.
Is there eligibility requirements for the kids? Yes. The state requires the students to be passing all classes to be eligible. The students can not be failing any classes. Eligibility is done at the end of the week for the following week.
If you have any other questions please email us or contact us.
If you are interested in purchasing this years cross country t-shirt, here is the order form 2017 GMS XC Shirt Order Form All orders are due Thursday August 24th.

August 9th, 2017
Another great start for the 2017 season. We had around 50 students show up today. We will have at least 10 more. A lot of kids are on vacation with the late start to school. If you did not receive the packet today, here is the info the kids received:
2017 Cross Country Parent Letter
2017 GMS Authorization for Medical Treatment
Please return the Authorization to Treat Form and the Concussion Form ASAP.
The kids also received a packet from the booster club. The booster club is doing a fundraiser this year. The kids received packets today. There are some great things being raffled off at the time trial on Tuesday. We encourage the kids to participate, but it is not mandatory. Do not feel like you have to sell all fifteen. Any amount is great. If you need more tickets let us know. If you did not receive a packet, contact coach Ehlert.
The girls team is looking to have a great year with 4 of the top 10 girls back from last year. There are many great seventh grade girl runners being added to the team. Again, more sisters of former runners are being added to the team this year. This could be a historic year for the ladies.
The boys team only has 1 of the top 10 coming back this year. After having another great year placing in the top 10 at state (9th in 3A), we are hoping to reload this year and maybe create some magic. We have two 7th grade boys, who broke the 6th grade mile record last year, on the team. This team has a lot of potential of being really good.
The class split has not been announced yet. We should be in 3A, but with a little luck we could be in 2A this year.
We are going to have a great year. Dream Big!!!!!!!

Finding broken bottles, glass, and holes on the course was new obstacles for the kids. The great weather looks to continue this week. The kids are doing great. The kids received a parent letter today CC Parent Letter Aug 22, 2016. The one the kids received had a few errors. This one is updated.
Also, make sure you are eating. Carbs are great for you. 50-65% of your diet should be carbohydrates right now. Fruits and vegetables are very important. Proteins are very important to build muscles also. Meats provide the Iron we need also. Get some salty food in you also. It has been hot. Stay away from pop and energy drinks. They are horrible for you. A great drink after your workout is chocolate milk. Probably the best recovery drink out there.
The kids received their uniforms tonight. Please follow the washing instructions on the parent letter. The kids are doing awesome.

Great job the this week. Some photos from Tuesday.
August 12th, 2016
We had a great first week!!!!!! We have around 50 -60 kids out right now. Some of the kids are trying out for volleyball, so will gain some from volleyball. The kids had a hard work out on the track. There are some sore bodies. Please have them ice their legs down. Stretch, stretch, stretch. There are two easy ways to ice body parts: 1) do a cold bath. Fill the bath tub up with cold water and sit in it for 5 – 10 minutes. 2) Do an ice massage. Fill up paper cups with water and put them in the freezer. After cups freeze, tear off the top part of the cup and rub the ice on the area that is sore. This massages the area and gets the cold to go deeper in the body. Only do Ice Massage for 5 – 7 minutes. You do not want to get frost bite.
We did not have a chance to hand out a parent letter today. Here it is. CC Parent Letter Aug 12,2016
The booster club is doing a fundraiser this year. The kids received packets yesterday. There are some great things being raffled off at the time trial on Thursday. I have already been contacted to get more for some athletes already. Great job.

July 7th, 2016
The 2016 season is just around the corner. The first practice will be during the week of August 8th. We are expecting to start the year with around 50 – 60 student athletes.
After just missing a trophy last year placing 5th, the girls team is looking to have another great year with 3 of the top 10 girls back from last year. There are many great seventh grade girl runners being added to the team. More sisters of former runners are being added to the team this year. This could be another historic year for the ladies.
The boys team has 6 of the top 10 coming back this year. After having another great year placing 16th in 3A, we are hoping to reload this year and maybe create some more magic. This team also has a lot of potential and with the right work ethic this team could do something really special.
The class split has not been announced yet. We should be in 3A, but with a little luck we could be in 2A this year.
Come back to the website, we will be updating it on a regular basis and all the results will be posted as efficiently as we can.

August 20th, 2016

Very Hot!!!! It was hot out there tonight. The kids did great in the heat. We had some really good times tonight. The results from tonight are posted.
If we qualify for state, only the athletes who qualified from sectionals run.
Understand though, only the top seven kids run at sectionals.
If you are interested in purchasing this years cross country t-shirt, here is the order form 2016 GMS XC Shirt Order Form All orders are due Monday August 24th.

We encourage the kids to participate, but it is not mandatory. Do not feel like you have to sell all fifteen. Any amount is great. If you need more tickets let us know. I have already been contacted to get more for some athletes already. Great job.
The sectionals have been assigned. We are in 3A. We are in the Sterling Sectional. We do not know what course we will be running. If you would like to see the sectionals go to this site IESA Sectionals.
August 10th, 2016

Unfortunate for the kids who did not. We do not have official results yet. Our guess is the girls placed second. Dixon has a strong team. We believe the boys finish first. The results will be posted as soon as we get them. We will have times for the kids to look at tomorrow. The kids had some incredible times. If anyone was able to take some photos, please send them our way. Awesome job tonight kids.

Awesome time trial. Sorry we have not been on the web page in awhile. The kids ran great tonight. A lot of top ten times this evening. We lucked out with the weather. Please send us some photos and we will get them posted. The results from tonight are posted.
If we qualify for state, only the athletes who qualified from sectionals run.
Understand though, only the top seven kids run at sectionals.
If you have any other questions please email us or contact us.

Just found out we have been moved up to class 3A for the split. Last years numbers put us at the same amount of students. Other schools lost enrollment, so we have been moved up. Not a problem. Make sure you have a current physical on file at the office. Hope to see you there.

The boys team has 4 of the top 10 coming back this year. After what look liked a rebuilding year last year, turned into a reloading year. This team has a lot of potential and with the right work ethic this team could do something really special.
It looks like we will be in class 2A for the state split.
Come back to the website, we will be updating it on a regular basis and all the results will be posted as efficiently as we can.

Kids had a hard day on the track today. They may be a little tired and sore. Make sure the kids are doing cold baths or icing their legs down. Cold baths consist of filling the bath tub full of cold water and sitting in the tub for 5 minutes. You do not need to add ice. Do a good stretch afterward. Another good way to ice is to fill a paper cup with water, put it in the freezer, let it freeze, and then tear the top of the paper off and do an ice massage on the sore area. Only do an ice massage for 5 minutes. Do not go any longer than that.
The kids did receive a parent letter today. There are some schedule changes. Here is the letter CC Parent Letter Aug 20,2012. Also, a reminder t-shirt orders are due tomorrow.
August 19th, 2012
Friday was popsicle day. The kids dressed in one color and at the end of practice we all had popsicles. We did some weight training at the facility and did a little running. It was a fun practice.
The sectional assignments were announced. We are in class AA. We have a tough sectional at Germantown Hills. The girls have 6 teams that made it to state last year in their sectional and the boys have 5 teams. We will have to work hard to make it back down to state this year.
There has been a schedule change. The September 12th Moline Invitational is being run at Coal Valley Municipal Park (1st Street) in Coal Valley Illinois.

What a beautiful night to run. The kids ran really well tonight for the time trial. The results of the middle school time trial are posted. If anyone has photos, please send them to my email address. I will post some once I get some. Thanks to all who came out and participated. Great job runners and fans. The night ran a little long, so the parent meeting was a little short. Here are some things parents had questions about:
Does everyone run in the meets? Yes. Everyone will run in the meets and the meets score the top 7 runners. At the conference meet, there is a top 7 girls race, a top 7 boys race, and an open race for the rest of the team. At sectionals, only the top 7 runners run from the girls team race and boys team race. If we qualify for state, only the athletes who qualified from sectionals run.
Understand though, only the top seven kids run at sectionals.
If you have any other questions please email us or contact us.
If you are interested in purchasing this years cross country t-shirt, here is the order form. Cross Country T All orders are due Tuesday August 21st.

The kids worked hills today. There might be some sore legs. Have the kids ice any sore body parts (No longer than 15 minutes with ice). Icing the body or even doing a cool bath will help the body recover and heal faster (Cold bath for 5 minutes). Stretch gently afterwards.
Just a reminder, no practice tomorrow (Wednesday) and practice on Thursday (August 16th) will be at Richmond Hill at 5:15 pm. The time trial will start at 6:00pm. The kids need to bring 3 canned goods to donate to the food pantry. They will also need to bring a t-shirt to be part of the awards ceremony. Girls need to bring 12 baked goods (Cookies or brownies) and the boys need to bring a 6 pack of water or sports drink for a post practice party. The kids will be done by 7:30.
