I thought this book was okay. Riley’s reasons for not liking tabletop games seemed contrived. I liked how her friends all come together to help out. My favorite character is Hoshiko.
Honestly, I liked this book. Riley seemed sweet but I was just confused about why she kept keeping things from her parents. They were the most chill people on the planet. Stealing her mom’s car, lying about the rehearsals, it was all so unnecessary because if she had just expressed how much she cared about these theater activities, then her parents would be helping her problem solve to figure out a way to make it work. Even after the whole getting grounded thing, if she properly talked about what she was doing to keep the musical alive, then her parents would be proud, not restrictive. That aspect just kinda got annoying, but other than that, I thought this was a cute romance. Would recommend.
This book was super cute. It was insanely predictable, but it was still a fun read! It got a little annoying at some points because it’s soooo obvious that Riley and Nathan are going to be endgame, but they take forever to realize it. Like, duh, you both like each other, wake up!!! Riley’s ex was a total ick. I don’t know how she had so much patience for him because I wanted to toss any page with his name on it in the trash. It was clear from the beginning that the play would be saved. I was wondering if Boyce would switch it up, but she didn’t. Overall, it was a cute and fun read, I recommend!
I had never heard of the book until I found it on the Read for a Lifetime list. When I went to the public library, I picked it up randomly, even though I hadn’t read a book for pleasure in a while. I finished reading it in just two days. During school, it was the one thing I looked forward to the most. I love this book!
