I honestly was not a huge fan of this book. There were some parts that I enjoyed, such as the plot twist with Mara turning out to be Kimmi in the end, which I wasn’t really expecting. I just think the book was too far out there for me to enjoy. I have also never really been a huge fan of books with plot lines similar to this. I wish the ending had shown more of the aftermath of Alcatraz 2.0. Overall, this was definitely not my favorite book.
Surprisingly, this book was pretty good. I enjoyed the concept of the killers getting a taste of their own medicine, and that Dee grappled with whether or not that’s truly fair. I enjoyed how Dee’s past was connected to Alcatraz 2.0, and how, bit by bit, we got to learn more about Kimmi and Dee’s abduction. The killing got a bit redundant in my opinion, but I enjoyed that the murders weren’t all the same. The gore aspect wasn’t as bad as I had expected, as well as the supposed horror, so I’d consider this book more of a quick thriller. Overall, this wasn’t my favorite book I’ve read so far, and definitely not as scary as I’d expect, but I liked the plot and writing, and I’d recommend it to friends!
I loved this book. I thought the concept was interesting, but also super insane. I understand creating a new system for criminals because the prison system is wildly overcrowded, but forcing them to be the victims of elaborate murders is a bit much. Can’t say I didn’t enjoy reading it, but I almost feel guilty for eating up every word because thinking about it more really made me think “wow, this is horrible”. It was difficult to wrap my head around such a cruel punishment. It was upsetting for me when the framing was revealed because it meant that innocent people were being killed so violently. It’s like one minute I could be downing a yummy energy drink, and the next I would be boiled alive in wax? No thank you! This book is definitely a yes for me, though! Love it! 10/10
I really enjoyed this book. The use of Alcatraz as a setting was fantastic since it’s one of my favorite historical sites. I appreciated that it serves as a modern take on public executions. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a history buff or simply enjoys a good thriller.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I liked how they connected Alcatraz 2.0 with Dee’s past. Additionally, I liked when the book showed the outside world’s perspective of the events. However, I would say it is more a mystery book than horror in terms of the main plot.
