Awesome Job Tonight!!!!!!!
The kids did a great job tonight.  The weather was incredible also.  Just a perfect night for a track meet.
We want to send out a huge thank you to all the parents and volunteers for helping with the meet.  For the first meet in two years, the meet ran very smooth.  Please consider volunteering at the meet next week.  We need a lot of help and the help we had tonight was awesome.  Thank you very much.
The results are posted.  We actually have the results going during the meet.  It usually takes about 10-15 minutes to load after each meet, so it is almost live.  Check them out.  https://gcsdstaff.org/gmstrackandfield/.  Look under the results tab.
Tomorrow we have practice for all the kids.  Boys and girls will meet from 2:25 4:00.  We will be ending practice at the middle school.  Again, you will need to pick your kids up at the middle school at 4:00.

Weather looks to be good for the next few weeks. Get outside and enjoy yourselves. Play some soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, go for a bike ride, jog, and just have fun. You are kids and need to be kids. Those kids looking for some workout ideas, here are a few ideas: Sprinters get some sprints in every other day.  Distance kids also need to get some sprints in every other day. On the other day, go for a run, anywhere from 2-4 miles is good enough. You need to have one day where you go long during the week. Four miles at the most. Remember, if you practice slow, you will be slow. If you practice fast, you will be fast. Below is a sample for the week (Remember, these are all voluntary):

Monday – Sprinters: easy run 1 – 2 miles. Do some weight work outs. Body weight is enough. Distance: 2-4 miles medium effort. Weight workouts also.

Tuesday – Sprinters: Broken 300’s. 5 or 6 will work. Remember, 200 at 400 pace. 100 all out. Distance: Broken 500’s. 5 or 6 also. Remember, 300 at 800 pace. 200 all out.

Broken 300 – Run a 200 at a 400 pace, jog 100, sprint 100

Broken 500 – Run a 300 at a 800 pace, jog 100 sprint 200

Wednesday – Sprinters: easy run 1 – 2 miles. Do some weight work outs. Body weight is enough. Distance: 2-4 miles medium effort. Weight workouts also.

Thursday – Tuesday – Sprinters: Do a ladder work out. 300, 200, 100, 50. Do a couple of sets of these. Try to go all out and then have 3 minutes of recovery between reps. Distance: Do a couple of 800’s at mile race pace. Then do 400’s. Do the 400’s at 800 race pace.

Friday – Long run for both. Sprinters 2 miles. Distance 3 – 5 miles.

Have fun. These workouts are just sample work outs. Modify them as much as you want. Come up with your own work outs. You know your body best. Do not over do it and hurt yourself. Do not do anything you can not do.

Anyone on a beach, get some sprints in on the beach. Best training you can do for a work out.

We will be posting more.  Hang in there.

Athletes and Parents,

In coordination with the shut down of the Geneseo school district from March 17th through March 30th due to the COVID-19 virus, all track practices and meets have been cancelled for that time frame as well.  This includes the cancellation of our intrasquad meet scheduled for Monday, March 16th. There will be no practice on Monday, March 16th either.

We encourage you to stay positive and active during this suspension of our season.  Please continue to get work outs in on your own as you see fit. Check the GMS Track and Field website for workout ideas.

Please bring your booster packets with money collected and unused raffle tickets on Monday.  You can give these packets to your homeroom teacher on Monday.

Neon Day today!!!!!

March 12th, 2020

With our first meet coming up Monday, it is time for the athletes to start signing up for the events they are interested in.  Students, follow the appropriate link below to take a Google Form survey about the events you want to participate in.

Remember, you can only participate in FOUR events at a maximum.  However, this does not mean that you have to sign up for four events.  If you are only interested in three, two or one events, then only sign up for those.

Also, if you are interested in running a relay, then sign up to participate in that distance as an “open” event.  For example, if you want to run in the 4×400 relay, sign up for the 400. We will then make relay teams based on your responses.

BOYS event selection form

Also, parents, we need many of you to make our meets a success!  Thank you to those that have volunteered so far, but we still need many more volunteers, including for our intrasquad meet on Monday.  Please use the link below to sign up to volunteer.

Finally, tomorrow will be our first dress up day.  Dress in neon for practice!

March 6th, 2020

We had a great practice today, the kids had an opportunity to check out some field events and get a short workout in.  Please have your athlete get in a run/workout 1 of the days this weekend.

Parents, please consider volunteering to help at our home meets.  We need an army to make the meet run smoothly and quickly!  Follow the link below to volunteer.  We appreciate your help!

– Our program is to develop kids for all sports.  Our program is the base for all sports at the high school.  Our goal is to make you fast.

– Kids can do other sports. They can miss practices. Just remember, if they miss meets or practices and someone else runs faster, they have moved down the list. We want the kids to have fun and enjoy all sports.

Girls Line Ups

Boys Line Ups

Today was not ideal to be outside. We had an indoor workout and the kids were awesome. They worked very hard. Tomorrow, we will go easy and get the legs back under them.

As for Friday, we handed out line ups this evening. The kids who are on the list will be going to the track meet. The other kids will not be traveling to the meet. They will have the night off from track and there will not be practice. Tomorrow, we will be handing out uniforms to the kids going to the Friday track meet and all the kids will have practice working on field events, hurdles, starts, and hand offs.

Friday’s weather looks very cold. Please plan on bringing tights, sweats, jackets, gloves, stocking caps, blankets, or anything to keep warm. Rockridge is in the middle of a corn field and there is no protection from the wind. The current forecast is for a high of 48 and 25 – 35 MPH winds. It could be very chilly.

Rockridge charges admission for the track meet. $3 for adults, $2 for children, or $7 for a family.

There will be a concession stand, so send some extra cash for snacks or hot chocolate or pack a dinner for the kids.

The meet will begin with the girls running events and the boys field events at 4:00. Once all the girls running events are done, the meet will flip and then the boys running events and girls field events will begin. That is usually around 6:00ish.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

April 4th, 2019

The kids did another great job tonight. The weather was a little scary at first. Monday looks like better weather. Looks like 70 degree weather is on the way.

A huge thank you to the volunteers. The meet would not go as well with out you. Getting done by 7:45 tonight was huge. Monday, we are looking for volunteers for the meet. Please consider helping. Without great help, the meets do not flow so well. Thanks again to all our great helpers at the meets. This will be our last home dual or triangular.

Monday, we will have less entries for the field events. We will chat with the kids tomorrow about it.

Sorry for the late email. The Wilson team did not have enough room on their bus, so some of their team had to wait for another bus to come out and get the kids. Coach Wagner saved the day and let them into the high school to stay warm and dry. I relieved Coach Wagner around 8:30 and the Wilson team got out of the high school around 9:00. We are fortunate to be able to have good busing and be able to have our buses stay with the teams at the events.

Just a reminder, tomorrow practice is done at 4:30. We will make line ups for Monday and then work hand offs, starts, field events, and hurdles.

Results are posted.

Have a great night and keep Dreaming Big!!!!!!!!

If anyone can help volunteer, either at concessions or at the meet please let us know.

The kids are doing an awesome job and great things are going to happen the next three weeks.  Please let us know if you have any questions.  Dream Big!!!!!!

The 8th Grade Girls 100 Meter Dash record was broken by Allison Bowers and Abby Reakes decided to break her mom’s 8th Grade Girls record.

The 100 meter dash record was from 1983. One of our oldest records. And the high jump record was from 1989.

Congratulations to all the track kids. Keep up the hard work.

April 8th, 2017

There has been some questions about the 8th grade boys 4×100. They announced at the meet, the boys had broken the record. The record was wrong in the program. Our team set the record in 2014 and the time was 47.90. Reed Vanderheyden, Adam DeYoung, Jarron Nordstrom, and Drew Rapps hold that record.

April 7th, 2017

Incredible. That would describe everything tonight. The weather was great and the kids were awesome. All the teams won their divisions. We had some meet records this evening:

8th Grade Girls 4×100 Meter Relay – Esther Brown, Chloe Adams, Allison Bowers, Taylor DeSplinter

7th Grade Girls 400 Meter Dash – Ali Rapps

7th Grade Girls 4×400 Meter Relay – Kammie Ludwig, Mallory Bealer, Savannah Reisner, Ali Rapps

8th Grade Girls Discus – Maddi Barickman

The kids did great. Remember we have some optional practices next week. Here they are:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 – 11:30.

The weather looks to be better next week. Get outside and enjoy yourselves. Play some soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, go for a bike ride, jog, and just have fun. You are kids and need to be kids. Those kids looking for some workout ideas, here are a few ideas: Sprinters get some sprints in every other day. If y0u can make it to the voluntary practices, get on the track and work out there. Distance kids also need to get some sprints in every other day. On the other day, go for a run, anywhere from 2-4 miles is good enough. You need to have one day where you go long during the week. Five miles at the most.

Have a great break.

April 6th, 2017

May 4th, 2016

The girls were incredible tonight. Both the 7th and 8th grade teams are Heartland Conference Champions. The girls had a really good night. The results are posted. There was a school record broken after converting times to hand held times. Esther Brown broke the 400 meter record tonight. Congratulations Esther and congratulations ladies on being conference champions. Please send us photos of the boys or girls meets. Things are going really well for all the teams in the program. Dream Big!!!!!!!

May 3rd, 2016

Great job to the boys teams!!!!!! The 8th grade boys won conference and we are still waiting on the official results for the 7th grade boys. There was some confusion on the scores. They were announced as the winners by one point, but then after some review of the scoring they did not win the meet. They are reviewing the results and we will have them hopefully tomorrow. Currently we placed second. Our 7th grade guys did awesome. They scored at least 122 points. That normally wins the meet. Great job guys. Practice tomorrow is done at 4:30.

Tomorrow the girls run in the conference meet in Rock Island. Good luck girls.

April 25th, 2016

Disappointing. That is all that needs to be said. The weather people predicted severe weather, and we received perfect weather. The decision to cancel the meet was made at noon when the weather forecast called for 100% chance of thunderstorms at 5:00 pm. Dixon did not want to make the trip and then have to go back due to the bad weather. Totally understandable.

We tried to make the best of it and have a informal intra-squad meet at practice. The kids worked hard and ran really well. We got some good times and marks in some events.

The results came in from the Pioneer invitational. Those results are posted.

Jack and Jill is on Wednesday. Hopefully we will get some good weather.

April 24th, 2016

Weather was great this weekend. Lets hope for some of the same tomorrow. There will be kids participating at the middle school at 3:30. Please wait until all the buses are gone before going into the bus lot. Here are the line ups for tomorrow:

Amazing weekend. The weather was awesome. The high school boys team had a great night on Friday. They won the Galesburg Invite for the first time. Awesome job guys. The girls high school team went to the Rock Island Invite on Saturday and did well also.

Hope this weather continues for the rest of the year. See you tomorrow.

April 15th, 2016

Great job tonight!!!! The kids were awesome. All the teams won their divisions. We had 5 meet records:

The kids running on Friday will get uniforms tomorrow. Please have the kids take of the uniforms. The uniforms need to be washed in cold. Hang dry. Do not bleach. Do not iron. We are fortunate to have uniforms.

There will not be practice for the kids who are not running at the meet. They have a three day weekend.

The meet on Friday will have the girls start running events at 4:00 and the boys start field events at 4:00. Once the girls running events are finished, the boys will begin their running events and the girls will begin their field events.

This is an IESA meet. All the uniforms have to match. If the kids on a relay are wearing any tights underneath their uniform, they have to match. The do not have to wear tights. They just can’t have some kids wearing white and some kids wearing black. If they are wearing tights they have to match.

April 11th, 2016

The kids are doing incredible. The weather has not been the best. I will be very glad to see the wind disappear. The results have been posted.

The boys track meet for Wednesday at Rock Island has been cancelled. There is a conflict at their track with some maintenance that just came up. We will still have practice for the boys to get ready for the track meet on Friday.

Another great night for the kids though. If you have any photos, send them our way. We have posted some from the last couple of meets.

Have a great night.

Interesting weather this week. The last two days have been productive. We had a great showing for some optional practices. Yesterday there were over 50 kids and today we had 60 kids. Great job for being voluntary. The coaches were very excited with your work and we hope you had fun.

Also, congratulations to Hannah Soria on her skiing accomplishments. She had a great weekend last week and was the overall champion at the Rocky/Central Junior Championships. March 18th, 2016

Weather looks to be good this week.

Have a great break.

March 16th, 2016

Awesome Black Out today!!!!!! The kids are doing awesome. Just a reminder, there is no practice on Friday. Also, we will have some voluntary practices over spring break. These practices are not mandatory. Some of the coaches will be coming in during the break to help with the kids. Here are the times and the days:

Tuesday, March 22nd 10:00 – 11:30 Thursday, March 24th 10:00 – 11:30 Friday, March 25th 10:00 – 11:30

The track and field boosters are running a raffle. The kids received envelopes. There are some great prizes. Here is a link to the boosters Facebook page Boosters.

Here is the parent letter from tonight March 16 Parent Letter.

Here are some photos from tonight:

Practices have gone well. We had a parent meeting tonight. Here is what was discussed:

– Eligibility for student athletes – Passing all classes. IESA Rule – Introduced the coaching staff. – Went over the events. – Important forms to turn in (Pink Sheet/Girls, Blue Sheet/Boys, Yellow Volunteer Sheet) – Went over the web page. – Boosters spoke – Mindy Brown talked about signs, spirit wear opportunities, and concession stand options. The boosters are also have a raffle this year. We are trying to raise money for more hurdles for next year. We are also purchasing an FAT timing system for the track meets.

– Our program is to develop kids for all sports.

– Kids can do other sports. They can miss practices. Just remember, if they miss meets or practices and someone else runs faster, they have moved down the list. We want the kids to have fun and enjoy all sports. – Remember to pick your students up at 5:00. We are done at 5:00. We do not let students out late. Fridays we are done at 4:30. – Have fun.

Things we forgot about:

  • Uniforms. The kids wear their Phys Ed clothes for duals and tri-angulars. For invitationals we have uniforms that will be checked out from the school.

Please email us if you have any questions.

March 10th, 2016

IESA State Track Meet 2015

The weekend is going to be a lot of fun. The kids will be around 8:50 on Friday and 6:00 am on Saturday. If you can get some snacks for the camp, the kids would enjoy this. Brownies, cookies, fruit, or chips are good ideas. See you tomorrow at the meet.

May 16th, 2015

What a great day. We were very fortunate to have great weather. There were a lot of storms that just missed us. The kids did an awesome job today. Three sectional team champions and a runner-up. We do not have official results. We will get them up as soon as we can. Great job teams.

May 15th, 2015

Just a reminder about the sectional track meet tomorrow. The meet starts at 9:00. Let us know if you would like to help out.

May 11th, 2015

Weather was not fun tonight. Kids did a good job of overcoming the wind and cold. Both the boys teams are conference champs. Great job to all the kids. Results are posted.

May 9th, 2015

Perfect weather today. The kids matched the day. We ran awesome. Great job to the kids and parents. There were two school records broken today. Ava Bieneman broke a 18 year old record in the 400 with a time of 1:04.54 and Kaden Rink broke a 28 year old record in the 1600 with a time of 4:46.64. Congratulations to both of these young kids. All four levels won their divisions today. The whole team was amazing. The results are posted. Remember guys we have conference on Monday at Rock Island. Have a great weekend.

May 6th, 2015

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade girls track and field teams. Both teams won their conference meets. Results are posted. Congrats to both teams.

May 3rd, 2015

The Jack and Jill results have arrived. They are posted. The kids did great. We won both the 7th and 8th grade divisions. Great job everyone.

The high school teams are doing great also. Congratulations to all the high school kids also.

April 30th, 2015

The kids did a great job last night. We do not have any results from the meet. We have posted a split sheet. When we do splits, we do the best we can to make them accurate. It is very hard to see where the middle of the exchange zone is to get the splits. A lot of people like to stop their watch when the athletes hand the baton off. This is actually inaccurate. You need to take the split in the middle of the exchange zone and this is difficult to do from a distance. We have received some photos and we will get them up as soon as we can.

Tonight the kids pushed cars and the distance kids headed to the DQ for a long run.

April 27th, 2015

Great weather. What a fun meet. Dixon was awesome and the meet turned out incredible. Kids did another amazing job. Results are posted. Have a great night.

April 21st, 2015

April 17th, 2015

Another great night for Geneseo Track and Field. The weather was a little hot for the kids. They still did great. All four teams won their divisions. Results are posted. If you have any photos, we would love to have them. There are some up from Monday’s meet if you scroll down. Great job again. Results are posted.

April 16th, 2015

Great meet last night for the boys. They did an outstanding job last night. The results have come in and are posted. The girls results from Monday are still coming in. We have the 7th grade results. Once we get the 8th grade we will get them up.

The boys won meets according to the results. There are some scoring errors, so I think the 8th grade boys will end up second after some adjustments. A great job was done by all. We have our meet at Rockridge tomorrow. There is a new format. The girls will run first and the boys will do field events first. Then the boys will do the running events and the girls will do the field events second. The meet starts at 4:00. Hope to see you there

April 14th, 2015

The girls team did awesome last night. Some pretty amazing performances. Great efforts. We have not received the results yet. We will get them posted as soon as we get them. The boys meet is in Moline tomorrow. Here are the line ups:

Tornado watch means no meet. This weather is crazy. Monday the girls have a meet. They will get line ups and uniforms tomorrow.

A big congratulations to Josie Brown for being selected as one of fifteen individuals in the state of Illinois for the IESA scholar attitude award. A great honor for her.

Weather looks to be great this week. Get outside and enjoy yourselves. Play some soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, go for a bike ride, jog, and just have fun. You are kids and need to be kids.

Have a great break.

March 27th, 2015

Again, great job last night. There will be some voluntary practices over spring break. Some of the coaches will be coming in during the break to help with the kids. Here are the times and the days:

Tuesday, March 31st 10:00 – 11:30 Thursday, April 2nd 10:00 – 11:30 Friday, April 3rd 10:00 – 11:30

Just a reminder we have practice on Monday, April 6th from 3:30 – 5:00. If you can not make it we understand.

Ideas for running over break. Distance kids get some sprints every other day. Run long on the other days 3 – 4 miles. Try to work out 4 or 5 days during the break. If you get more in great.

March 27th Parent Letter

Other than that, have a great break!!!!!!!!

March 26th, 2015

Great job tonight. A good practice meet for the kids. A little bit colder than predicted by the weather folks. All in all, a good start for the kids. No practice tomorrow. We will talk to the kids tomorrow about spring break and our next practices. If you have any photos, please send them our way and we will post them. Parents who volunteered, awesome job, thank you. Results are posted.

March 18th, 2015

Kids had a great practice. The parent meeting went well. Here are some things we discussed:

– Eligibility for student athletes – Passing all classes. IESA Rule – Introduced the coaching staff. – Went over the events. – Important forms to turn in (Pink Sheet/Girls, Blue Sheet/Boys, Yellow Volunteer Sheet) – Went over the web page. – Boosters spoke – Mindy Brown talked about signs, spirit wear opportunities, and concession stand options.

Things we forgot to talk about:

– Our program is to develop kids for all sports. – Kids can do other sports. They can miss practices. Just remember, if they miss meets or practices and someone else runs faster, they have moved down the list. We want the kids to have fun and enjoy all sports. – Remember to pick your students up at 5:00. We are done at 5:00. We do not let students out late. Fridays we are done at 4:30. – Have fun.

Please email us if you have any questions.

March 17th, 2015

The weather has been great so far. It looks like the temps are going to be in the 40’s and 50’s the next week. Have the kids wear appropriate clothing. Tomorrow night we have a parent meeting after practice at 5:00. The meeting should last around 30 minutes. Hope to see you there.

There was a parent letter handed out tonight. Track Parent Letter(3-17-2015)

March 15th, 2015

Beautiful weekend. Hope the kids were able to enjoy it. Tomorrow we will be doing some timing in the great weather. It is supposed to cool off on Tuesday. We will still be going outside. The kids need to bring warm clothes. If the kids are sore, have them ice their body down. This will get rid of most of the soreness.

March 11th, 2015

A great start to the year. We have around 200 kids out. We have been educating the kids on track and field. The weather has been great. Sounds like a “hurricane” is coming for tomorrow though. The kids will be a little sore after tomorrow. If you know anyone who still wants to come out, it is not too late.

What a great year. We hope you had as much fun as we did. We will be adding photos to the webpage during the summer. We received a lot from parents. Thank you very much for the photos. Saturday’s meet in Dixon will begin at 9:00 am with the girls running events and boys field events. We will be leaving the middle school at 7:00 am. The meet usually ends by 2:00. We should be back by 4:00, maybe earlier.

We just want to send a huge thank you to all the parents and kids on being patient with the weather and being positive. We are having great results and the kids are doing very well.

Sorry for not posting in awhile. Been kind of busy. The kids had a great week. Practices went really well and the meet on Thursday was perfect. We have been very lucky with weather this year. A huge thank you to the parents who helped with the meet on Thursday. There were a ton of heats and we were able to get done by 7:45. That is a good night for as many kids who ran. Many personal bests were run and it was fun to end with an awesome race in the 8th grade 4×400. Most of the results have been posted. We are having some trouble with some of the results. Be patient and we will get them up. We will have some more photos up this week. We have received photos and are sorting them out. Monday the meet is at Rock Island High School for the boys. Here are the line ups:

What a great night. The kids ran awesome. The weather was not ideal, but our kids really worked hard and as a team, all the teams won. We even won the overall team award. We would like to apologize for the late night. Rockridge has a new athletic director and this was his first track meet. They did a good job of running the meet. The results are posted. A huge thank you to the parents for being patient with all three track meets this week. We do have a home track meet on Thursday and will need some volunteers. Please let us know if you can help.

A great week of practice. We had time trials in the 100 meters and 400 meters tonight. The kids did great. They are all sore and tired from a hard week of practice, so they think their times are slow. They actually did a great job. We will post their results soon. Hat/bandana day went well also. The kids have the next three days off. That will really help their soreness. Have a great weekend.
