Ch 1 Test Study Guide Answer Key

See below for the answers to the Ch. 1 Test Study Guide.  In addition to the study guide, students can use the following resources for studying for a math test or quiz:

Ch 1 Test Study Guide Key

Do odd problems from the homework (Exercises) part of each lesson in the chapter.  The answers are in the back for odds!

Do the quizzes in the textbook.  There is always a mid chapter quiz and an end of chapter quiz.

Do the review (always at the end of the chapter).  The review goes lesson by lesson with at least one worked out example for each lesson.

Do the Chapter test (at the very end of the chapter).

Use the online textbook for additional resources (link to the online textbook is on my page in the sidebar!).

The Ch. 1 test will be Wednesday for Enriched classes and Friday for Regular classes.

First quiz under our belts

Both Enriched and Regular math classes have now taken their first quiz in 6th grade math.  The quiz was over 1.1 Р1.3.  Enriched students got their quizzes back on Monday, Regular students will get their quizzes back today.

A few things to note:

  1.  All students are eligible to do corrections on any quiz or test given in my class.  Correction sheets are available in my room.  To do corrections, the student should rework all the problems they got wrong (with all work shown), get the correct answer, and explain in complete sentences what error they made the first time.  If the problem is reworked correctly, the student will earn back half the points they missed (for example, if they missed 2 points on a problem, they would earn 1 point back for correcting it).  The only problem students cannot redo on the corrections is the extra credit.  I usually give students 2-3 days from when the test/quiz was handed back to complete corrections.
  2. Students are welcome to bring their quizzes and tests home to show off their hard work! ¬†However, I ask that all quizzes and tests be returned to school after being reviewed at home, since we file all our old assessments here at school. ¬†Filing the students’ work serves two purposes: ¬†we use these filed materials at conferences to look over the students work, and the students will use these filed materials to help study for the end of year final exam.

Welcome to the new school year!

Hi 6th graders!  My name is Mrs. Gillespie ( say it “Guh-less-pea”) and I’m the math teacher for the American League.  This is my second year here at GMS, and it will be my 10th year teaching middle school math.  I’m so excited to have a great year learning with you all.

My family hasn’t always lived here, we moved to Geneseo from the Chicago suburbs a year ago. ¬†I have two kiddos:¬† Gavin will be 7 this month and starts 1st grade¬†this year, and Declan is 4 and 3/4 (hey, I‚Äôm a math teacher, I have to use fractions, right?!). Declan will be in his second year of preschool this year. ¬†The boys and I love to swim, go to the zoo, play baseball in the backyard, and hunt Pokemon around town.

The boys ready to watch some Cardinal baseball at Busch Stadium this summer!

I LOVE math, but I have other interests too.¬† I enjoy running and I’m¬†an assistant coach for both the GMS cross country and track teams (I coach long and triple jump for track).¬† I love doing anything that involves being outside.¬† I also really enjoy singing and I sing with my church‚Äôs choir. ¬†I also really love to read, and during the summer I’m frequently checking out books at the library.

I’m also a big sports fan, both professional and college level.  I went to the University of Iowa, so you’ll see lots of Iowa gear in my classroom.  I love to cheer on the Hawkeye football and basketball teams, and we try to make it to at least one game each year.  I’m mostly a fan of Chicago teams.  I love the Blackhawks, Bulls and Bears.  But you might be surprised to find out that I don’t cheer for the Cubs or Sox but rather the St. Louis Cardinals!  Each year my extended family travels down to St. Louis to catch a series and it’s one of my favorite traditions.

I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know me a little better.  I can’t wait to meet all of you!  I look forward to seeing you on Back to School Night on August 17th from 5-7, and on our first day on Thursday, August 18th!  Enjoy these last few days of summer break!

Wrapping up!

With the year winding down (only 9 wake ups left!), make sure you’re getting all your final assignments turned in on time to get the most points possible.

Our upcoming due dates are:

Ch. 15 KIF due Friday (Regular math only)

Kahoot project due Friday (Regular math only)

Data project due Monday (Enriched math only)

Final exam study guide due Monday (ALL classes)

Final exam on Tuesday and Wednesday (ALL classes)

Final Exam!

The final exam for math class will be held on two days:  Tuesday, May 10th and Wednesday, May 11th.  Absent students will be able to make up the final on Thursday, May 12th.

A study guide for the final exam was handed out today in class, and is due on Monday, May 9th.  An answer key for the final exam study guide will be posted on this site later in the week.

In addition to the study guide, students can use their old KIFs and tests and quizzes to prepare for the final exam.  The study guide is very representative of what students should expect on the final exam.

The final exam is worth 43 points for Regular math students, and 51 points for Enriched math students.  This is similar to the amount of points possible on a chapter test.
