Welcome Back!

Hello Northside Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed a great summer. Events for this year are already underway. We are again using the Spotlight on Music series in all grades as a basis for all music lessons. We also incorporate a variety of other resources on a daily basis to create a fuller Music Education experience.

Our next concert is the Harvest Music Festival, which will take place on Sunday, September 20, in the Geneseo City Park. ¬† Practice materials can be found under the “4th +5th: Harvest Fest” link at the top of this page.

Please see a full description of what your child will be doing in music as well as a full calendar for the school year.  Please feel free to contact me with questions at meckwall@geneseoschools.org.

Thanks, and have a great year!

Mike Eckwall

Christmas Walk and Christmas Programs

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In just a few days, students will be sharing with you our Northside Christmas Program! These concerts will be held next Monday, December 15, 2014, in the High School Auditorium.

In addition, 4th and 5th grade students will be performing at the First Congregational Church for the Geneseo Christmas Walk this Saturday, December 13 at 4:30 p.m. These students should report to the church by 4:20 p.m.

For the Christmas Program, students should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before their concert begins. Students should report first to their homeroom location and check in with their teacher. Instrumentalists and cast members may then come to the auditorium to setup as needed. At the end of each concert, parents must come to their child’s homeroom and check out with the classroom teacher, even if they are staying for the next concert.

Families: Please enter the auditorium from the main doors and exit through the stage door after the concert.  Those with limited mobility may still exit through the main doors directly after the concert.  Please see the included traffic flow and homeroom map for more information.

Students should wear their holiday best or play costume for the performances. Dress pants and shirts, ties, dresses, skirts, blouses, and sweaters are all acceptable attire. Please make sure that students are also dressed comfortably because they will be standing on the risers for the majority of the performance. Cast member parents: If possible, please have your child show me his or her costume at school before the performance.

Program DVD’s available! D Squared Multimedia will again be filming the Northside performances and making them available on DVD for purchase! As before, all three of the evening’s concerts will be on one DVD. If you are interested in purchasing, please fill out and return the attached form with your payment, or follow instructions to place an order online.

Thank you for your support in preparing your child(ren) for this performance. The students and I are looking forward to sharing it with you!

Sincerely,

Mr. Eckwall

P.S: PLEASE HELP! We are still looking for parents to help set up and take down before and after the performance. If you would be willing to help, please contact me at meckwall@dist228.org or you may call Northside at (309) 945-0625. Thank you for your consideration, and if you have already volunteered!

Christmas Program Cover Contest

As in past years, we will be holding a contest for a program cover for each grade.  Students will have some time in art during the next week, but only after finishing their projects.  Students are encouraged to prepare their covers outside of school time.  The winner for each grade will have their cover printed on the programs for the December 15th performance and these students will be invited to help pass out the programs at the concert.  Pictures may be colored, though the December 15th programs will be printed in black and white.  Designs are due to Mr. Eckwall or Mrs. DeGarmo Thursday, December 11.
