3rd-5th Music Opportunities

Hello,
I hope that you’ve been enjoying the milder weather.  I wanted to outline a few upcoming opportunities for your child.  Many of the resources mentioned below are also available here on my district blog.
3rd-5th graders are currently working on several songs on recorder.  3rd and 4th grades are using the Recorder Karate system, where they earn one of nine belts upon mastery of each song.  5th graders are learning songs which they will perform at their Recorder-Band Concert on Monday, May 14th at the High School.  Students may come in for extra practice or to test for belts during most morning recess and specified lunch and lunch recess times.
On Thursday, March 1st, all 4th graders in Geneseo schools traveled to the Symphony Day at the Adler Theater in Davenport.  The theme this year was “American Voices.”  We had a wonderful trip, and even were able to see three Geneseo students perform on stage.  Thank you again to the school district, GPAC, and you for your support in allowing us this invaluable opportunity!   For upcoming Quad City Symphony Orchestra events, please see www.qcso.org .
4th and 5th grade students performed at the 44th Annual Music In Our Schools Concert on Tuesday, March 13th.  Please see the “4th+5th” tab above this post to view the program and recordings of the performance.
Students entering 4th-7th grade are invited to participate in a choir workshop directed by Geneseo music teachers and future music educators. Students will rehearse for two hours on July 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, and 11th.  Instruction will include vocal technique, theory, ear training, and preparation of concert music. The workshop will conclude with students performing with the adult community choir on Wednesday, July 11th.   Here is the Childrens Choir Parent Note 2018 .
All students will participate in our Annual Northside Fine Arts Day will take place on Friday, March 23rd. Many  4th and 5th grade students  have been rehearsing and will have the opportunity to perform in an instrument ensemble that will play during our final act of the day.  This assembly is scheduled to begin about 12:40.
As always, please let me know if you have questions at meckwall@geneseoschools.org or by phone at (309) 945-0625.  Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Mike Eckwall
