Dear Northside Parents,
Thank you to everyone who attended the Superhero Fun Run last Sunday! We had beautiful weather, and many students participating from all the schools. Here is an update of the remaining Northside music events for the spring. I have also outlined for you several additional music opportunities available to your child.
The Northside Spring Programs will take place on Wednesday, May 11th. 4th and 5th grades will perform at 9:00 a.m., 2nd and 3rd grades at 10:15 a.m., and Kindergarten and 1st grades at 2:15 p.m. Practice tracks and music notation are located here on¬†the page with your child’s grade. ¬†Monjaro Studios will again be filming, and DVD‚Äôs will be available for purchase! Please see the attached handout.
4th and 5th grades will perform at two additional concerts before the Northside Programs. First, both 4th and 5th grades will have the opportunity to sing as part of the “All Unit Choir Concert” next Monday, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the High School gym. Please arrive by 6:45. 5th grade will perform the following Monday, May 9th in the “Recorder Band Recruitment Concert.” This will be the same time in the same place- 7:00 p.m. in the H.S. gym, arrive by 6:45.
1st-5th grade students are invited to participate in an additional instrumental ensemble. This ensemble will rehearse mainly during lunch and recess times during the next three weeks, and will perform at your child’s program on May 11th. Please have your child come this week if he or she is interested in playing. I have attached a tentative rehearsal schedule, which includes the group for each grade level.
Please consider these extra music opportunities for your child:
- Current 1st-8th grade students-The Quad City Symphony Youth Choir is looking for new young voices for next year! You have the opportunity to audition on one of several days, starting in early May. I would be happy to assist your child in preparing for this audition. Please see this link for more information: https://qcso.org/meet-the-qcsyes/auditions.
- Current 2nd-6th grade students-The week after Memorial Day is “Summer Learning Adventure!” I plan to lead a class called “Movin’ and Tunin’ in Geneseo. You should have already received information regarding this and all other courses offered.
- Current 3rd-6th grade students are invited to participate in a Children’s Choir workshop this summer. This will take place in mid-July at First Lutheran Church. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
- Current 1st-5th grade students-Also at First Lutheran this summer from August 8th-12th, students will be invited to explore “Music around the World.” I will be assisting with this music camp. Multicultural meals and an afternoon activity are also included in this experience. Please see this link for more information: http://www.firstgeneseo.org/MusicAroundtheWorld.html.
Please let me know if you have any questions at meckwall@geneseoschools.org or (309) 845-0625. Thank you for your continued support of the Arts in Geneseo!
