Sterling Grass Relay Results

We had a great afternoon in Sterling!  The kids got a taste of what it is like to run 2 miles – granted with a break in between 🙂

Results are posted in the link below and the Results tab.  There are two tabs on the spreadsheet, one for the boys and one for the girls.  You will be able to see their individual mile times as well as their average mile time.

No practice tomorrow.  Please have your athlete run 1-2 times over the weekend.  We have a full 2 mile race to run on Tuesday so they’ll want to stay conditioned and push themselves to run a full 2 miles as a practice over the weekend.

Time Trial Results

We had a great first night at the Time Trial tonight!  Thank you to everyone for bringing snacks, drinks, shirts and food to donate to the food pantry.  The kids looked great and we’re excited to see what they can do this season!  Results are linked below.  It is a Google Sheet set so that anyone clicking the link can view it, so you shouldn’t need to send a “request for access.”  There are 3 tabs in the Google Sheet:  A boys result tab, a girls result tab, and a whole team results tab.

August 14– First Practice

Thanks for a great first practice!! We enjoyed meeting the kids. Tomorrow is a “dress up” day. If you can, try to wear green/white or Geneseo gear to practice.

Sign up for Remind

This year we will also send short reminders or updates via the Remind app.  We will still send out emails and parent letters, but this will be a way to get out short reminders/updates in a timely fashion.  It will be great for things like “remember practice ends at 4:00 today” or “today’s meet has been cancelled.” To sign up, follow this link: https://www.remind.com/join/xcgms19

August 9, 2019– Updates

August 9, 2019

Dear Cross Country Athletes and Parents,

We have a couple of updates for you since we sent out our initial email last week. The conference AD’s met this week and altered our Meet Schedule just a little bit. Specifically— the Moline Invite, Pioneer Invite, and Conference dates have changed. Due to these change, the practice calendar altered a bit as well. Attached is the new/updated practice calendar as well as the updated meet schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes as we know people plan things around the meets!

Just a reminder that our first practice is Wednesday, August 14th at GMS from 3-4:00pm. All of our practices go for an hour and are located at GMS unless we communicate differently with you ahead of time. We do want you to be aware that the three of us are all teachers, and we have institute that day. We will be in meetings until almost 3:00. There is no need to drop your athlete off super early for the first day of practice. They will wait outside on the benches until 3pm. Once we do open the doors (west doors by the west parking lot), athletes will report to the multi-purpose room (small gym).
Thursday, August 15th practice will go until 3:30. There is no practice Friday, and then the next week we will begin our 3:30-4:30 practice schedule. Hope this clarifies any confusion!

Our first “meet” will be the Time Trial on Tuesday, August 2oth. We will run this with the high school teams, and we also count this as our parent meeting! Running Wild will also be there selling gear and running shoes if anyone is interested.

We also have a blog that we update frequently with fun pictures from practice and meets as well as posting our meet results. https://gcsdstaff.org/gmsxc/

Please feel free to email with any other questions you might have!

August 1, 2019 — Welcome to the 2019 Season!

August 1, 2019

Dear Cross Country Athletes and Parents,

Welcome to the 2019 GMS Cross Country season. You are receiving this email because your child showed interest in cross country last spring. If your child is no longer interested in joining XC, then please disregard. We are excited to introduce our new athletes to competitive distance running. We also look forward to working with returning eighth graders and seeing improvements they will make from last season.

All athletes must have an athletic physical on file and up to date to practice. Any athlete without a physical should get a form from the office and immediately schedule an appointment with their doctor or an express clinic (Colona Clinic has walk in hours the next three Wednesdays for sports physicals!).

All athletes need to have an authorization to treat form turned into the school before they can practice also. This was electronically filled out at registration if you are a returning student to GMS. If you are new to the school, you will fill out a paper copy at registration. Also, a $30 participation fee for activities is required. This fee applies to any sport, club, or activity.  The $30 is collected once and covers all sports/activities for the entire year. Payment may be made with a credit card online through Skyward Family Access or with cash/check at the middle school office. Also, the IESA requires all students and parents to fill out and sign a concussion information sheet, which is also done at registration.

A practice schedule is attached below for the months of August, September, and October. Practices are typically 1 hour long, and usually start at 3:30 with a few exceptions. All practices are mandatory unless excused by a coach. We ask that athlete’s rides pick them up after each practice promptly each day (usually 4:30 unless we have a different start time). Please let a coach know if you are having problems picking your athlete up. We can try to help you find a ride or come up with an alternate solution.

The GMS Cross Country meet schedule is linked here. All athletes will ride the bus to and from meets. If a parent wishes that their child ride home with them from a meet, they must write a permission note and send it to the school office on the day of the meet. This can be done at the control table in the gym hallway before the school day begins.

The t-shirt order form is linked here as well. This is optional for the athletes to purchase. Money and order forms will need to be turned into XC boosters by August 21st.  We do provide uniforms for the athletes to wear at the official meets.

We hope this season will provide an opportunity for all our athletes to compete and improve their running abilities. We will ask everyone to work hard on a daily basis and we expect everyone to fulfill classroom requirements. Athletes must maintain their eligibility on a weekly basis to be eligible to compete. Parents may contact Coach Gillespie, Head Boys Coach, at egillespie@geneseoschools.org or Coach Schmidt, Head Girls Coach, at lschmidt@geneseoschools.org if they have any questions.

Sincerely,

Erin Gillespie, Boys Coach
Lauren Schmidt, Girls Coach

GMS XC 2019 Season

If  your child has signed up to participate in Cross Country in the fall, or is interested in signing up, please read the information posted.
We will be getting information out around August 1st as far as the actual XC season goes, but here is the info on the Summer “season”. Please know that this is not required, nor would this affect your participation in the fall. This just provides our athletes with some opportunities to get into shape over the summer. Coach Ehlert, the high school boys XC coach, actually runs the summer program. Therefore, if you have any questions about the summer runs, you can email him at tehlert@geneseoschools.org.
We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!
Thanks,
Erin Gillespie– Head Boys Coach (egillespie@geneseoschools.org)
Lauren Schmidt– Head Girls Coach (lschmidt@geneseoschools.org)
