Literacy Stations

This week we are reading fiction stories and focusing on the character traits of the characters in our books. This week, we’re going to put an extra focus on how we would describe how the characters in books LOOK. Next week we’ll take a peek at how characters in stories FEEL on the inside.

¬¨‚Ć Build a Word 🙂
Students will build our spelling words and sight words any way they would like (Play-Doh, magnets, bendy straws, beads). Students will take a picture with their iPad when they have finished!

Word Chunks
1st Graders will take the BIG books out and find words inside words. I see “Jack” inside Jacket!

Word Families and Steps
Students will write new words in the word family bubbles and then complete a word stair activity with more word families. We even have a cool Word Family app. on the iPad! Woo-hoo!

Make a Sentence
1st Graders will unscramble the sentences and then write them on a piece of paper. Then, they’ll make their own sentences and cut them up.

Writing
We’re focusing on character traits in our Character Seat work packet. We’re taking an extra focus on Outside Traits (what the character LOOKS like). This week, students can take a BIG piece of paper and draw a creature. Then they can write all of the outside character traits to match. They even have a choice to draw themselves and write their own character traits.

Listening
Students can listen to a story on the iPad and then record themselves reading the same story.
