We interactively read and wrote about The Bad Case of the Stripes last week. Then we gave ourselves a bad case of the stripes! We practiced looking for “tail letters” and beginning and ending sounds while we wrote.

We had so much fun celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday this week. We read and made poems about apples, compared and contrasted fiction and nonfiction apple books, investigated apples with our five senses, taste-tested and made a sentence about our favorite apple color, and made an Apple Taco recipe! We talked about adding “VOICE” to our writing while we read The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt! We absolutely LOVED it! We even had to have an encore read. We wrote our book review so that we could spread the news… This book ROCKS!!

We have been discussing what makes up a community. We read knee-to-knee together and then we interactively spelled places in the community together. Then we all were assigned a place in the community. We got to play the architect! We blueprinted our place in the community. Our next step is to cut our places out …
