Distance Learning Letter

Below are the expectations of what to expect for Science class as we all continue learning and working from home…

For those of you with internet access, I will be posting required reading, videos, lesson packets, and/or other work and optional enrichment activities on Google Classroom each Monday for you to complete for that week. I may also be posting videos or other materials throughout the week so please check in on a regular basis. You may download and print materials or simply complete your work on your own paper, being sure to carefully label each assignment and answer. Paper copies for this week will also be available for pick up at GMS on Tuesday, March 31 between 9:00 – 11:00 AM and 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Please try to complete all required items assigned on Monday by the following Sunday afternoon so that we are all ready to start with new learning activities for the following week. Assignments should be turned in on Google Classroom either by scanning and uploading or attaching pictures of your completed work.

If you do not have internet access or access to Google Classroom, you may instead choose any activity for the week from the Science portion of the Alternative Learning Plan. This plan has been updated and expanded. It is posted on the District 228 webpage or you may pick up a paper copy of this plan at Geneseo Middle School on Tuesday, March 31 from 9:00-11:00 am or 2:00-4:00 pm.  If necessary, feel free to repeat any of the listed activities, tweak them a bit, or adapt them to fit your needs and situation. Your work may be shared with me through Google Docs, emailed to me, or paper copies of your work may be turned in when we return to school.

Grading: Per the state, district, and my personal belief, you will not receive a “normal” grade during this time. Instead, I will be using the recommended policy of giving a Pass/Incomplete grade. However, I will still track, monitor, and record your progress in Skyward.

What does this mean?

  • Assignments and/or activities will be entered into Skyward in order to track your individual progress. Please understand:
    • Your assignment will be worth ZERO points in order to ensure that there are no academic penalties.  (This is a good thing!)
    • IF you PASS your assignments for the week, you will receive a ZERO for a grade. (Again, good thing!)
    • IF you have an INCOMPLETE for the week, you will receive an asterisk (*) and the assignment will be marked as missing. However, do not worry, please, because you will have the opportunity to complete these missing assignments to achieve a ZERO (again, good thing!).  You may take as much time as necessary to do these missing assignments.

I will be checking my email every couple of hours each day.  Feel free to email me at any time during the day, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. You may also email me at night, but please know that I may not be able to get back to you until the next morning.

Please do not stress over any of the activities I am asking you to complete during our time apart!  If you become frustrated, send me an email and then move on to another activity or class. I want you to be confident in your efforts and find as much enjoyment as possible in learning as we work together through these uncertain times.
