100th Day of School

Our 100th Day of School is quickly approaching! It will be held on Tuesday, February 4th. Please don’t forget to wear a shirt with 100 things on it, as well as bring a trail-mix type snack of 100 pieces. We will be participating in many fun activities… including transforming ourselves into 100 year old folk!

Our newest literacy centers are: putting together our favorite poem Fuzzy Wuzzy Was a Bear and matching and writing homophones. We also made our spelling words in shaving cream this week… a mess of FUN!

We have been using a giant ten frame (made of tape) on our floor (inspiration:Mrs. D’Hondt) to help us understand how to make tens to add and subtract FAST! Try using this website to find exact first grade math skills to practice. MATH FUN

Contractions

Our favorite station over the last week (besides Play-Doh word making) has been Macaroni Noodle Contractions! We place a macaroni in the place of the apostrophe and write the root words on the back. Then we quiz a friend!

Word Work

This past week we worked in partners to find as many words as we could with a handful of letters. Then, together as a class we made words, then sentences, and then illustrations to our sentences on whiteboards. It was great practice in building sentences with a WHO and a WHAT!

Reading Centers

During our seat work, our higher leveled reading groups have been listening to leveled books and then getting MESSY with them! This just means making marks such as circling characters in red, circling sentences to connect to in pencil, and circling punctuation marks in purple.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

We practiced our spelling words with Play-Doh this week and then READ them in our Fuzzy Wuzzy poem! We got messy with the poem every day. Now we aren’t writing “wuz” anymore.. it’s WAS!
