We practiced reading R-controlled vowels (-ir, -ur, -er) with the fairy tale Curls that Swirl. We buttered the R-vowels with our yellow markers and then recorded our voice reading the story on our iPad.

We practiced comparing and contrasting with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We brainstormed by ourselves first, then used hula hoops in groups. We then practiced our skills by comparing and contrasting two books about George Washington.  

Stars and Stripes

We loved reading the book George Washington’s Teeth by¬¨‚Ć Deborah Chandra and Madeleine Comora this week. We added new facts to our George Washington schema.

We read poems, stories, and books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln last week to remember Presidents’ Day. We collected LOTS of facts about George Washington. We watched Miss Wilkey model fact writing a paragraph all about our first president. With help from a graphic organizer, we wrote one too!
