What We Do……..

GPAC meets once a month to plan fund-raising events and to coordinate activities. Some of the events GPAC parents assist with include but are not limited to:

1. Marching Band

  • band uniforms
  • bus chaperones for competitions
  • design and sell “show” t-shirts
  • “pit crew” during football games and competitions

2.  Harvest Fest Weekend- MAJOR FUNDRAISER- band and choir-end of Sept.

A. Saturday-Maple Leaf Classic Marching Band Competition- GHS Stadium

  • supervise concessions
  • hospitality
  • publicity
  • coordinate volunteers
  • plan traffic pattern
  • organize practice times for bands prior to thier competition (clinic & competition)
  • assist with set up and clean up

B. Sunday- Music in the Geneseo City Park- 4-12 grade choirs and talent show

  • supervise a pork chop meal and concessions
  • organize the auction/ raffle
  • set up games/ karaoke for students
  • assist with choir performances and talent show set up & take down

3.IMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association) vocal & instrumental auditions are   hosted by Geneseo in October. Students are competing for a position in the District 2 festival bands or choirs that perform at Augustana College in November.

A. MS & HS vocalists from District 2 audition at Geneseo MS

B. MS & HS instrumentalists from District 2 audition at Geneseo HS

C. Parents

  • run concession stands at both schools
  • host an information table at both schools
  • host a hospitality room for judges
  • set up and take down audition rooms

4. Recital (grades 7-12 Geneseo band and choir students only)- held at GHS at the end of February. Students are judged on their solo and ensemble work.

  • run a concession stand

5. Jazz Show- MS jazz band and swing choir, HS jazz band and jazz choirs perform in the GHS gym in the spring. MS participants serve pie and drinks throughout the evening.

6. Winter and Spring Fund-raisers
