Local Legislators Convene to Discuss Vision for Public Education

illinoisvision2020.orgSix local legislators have committed to attend a public forum to discuss the future of public schools in Bureau, Henry and Stark Counties and to review Vision 20/20, a blueprint for public education in Illinois developed by educators from throughout the state.

“We are delighted that these representatives and senators were willing to take time out of their busy schedules and, in anticipation of their upcoming transition with a new governor, to talk to our school communities about how they see us working together to improve opportunities for our children,” said Angie Zarvell, Regional Superintendent of Schools for Bureau, Henry and Stark Counties.

The legislators who will be attending, or sending staff to the forum are: Don Moffitt, Frank Mautino, Darin LaHood, Mike Smiddy, Neil Anderson, and David Leitch. The meeting will kick off with an overview of Illinois Vision 20/20, the forward-looking plan for public education that was collaboratively developed by the Illinois Association of School Administrators, Illinois Association of School Boards, Illinois Principals Association, Illinois Association of School Business Officials, Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools, and the Superintendents’ Commission for the Study of Demographics and Diversity.

“This Vision 20/20 document is fast becoming an important point of conversation across the state, and the excitement and energy that this potentially will generate in support of our children should be heard by all in our school communities”, said Jerry Klooster, superintendent of Stark County Schools and a member of the Task Force that helped develop Vision 20/20. Klooster will be presenting the overview.

The meeting will be held at the Petersen Auditorium at Kewanee High School at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21. More information about the meeting is available by contacting the Regional Office of Education at (309) 936-7890.
