Karna Frerichs MS
Mrs. Frerichs has been teaching Physical Education and Health in the Geneseo district for 20 years. During this time, she has coached girls‚ 7th basketball and 7thgrade volleyball.
Before coming to the Geneseo district, she taught 3 years in Canton, Illinois at Westview Elementary School. She also was a junior high track coach while in Canton.
Mrs. Frerichs received her Bachelors degree in Physical Education and Health from Western Illinois University with an emphasis in athletic training. During her time as a student trainer, she traveled with the football, basketball, soccer and softball teams as well as becoming an EMT.
Mrs. Frerichs has since received her masters degree from St. Xavier University in Teaching and Leadership.
Mrs. Frerichs grew up in Hooppole, Illinois and attended Annawan High School.While in high school, she participated in basketball, track & field, cheer leading, student council, national honor society and other various clubs/organizations.
Mrs. Frerichs has two children. She enjoys spending her free time with family, friends, boating, swimming, water skiing and attending various activities of her children.
Kevin Reed MS
Robert Thomas MSEd
Mr. Thomas has been working within the Geneseo School District since the year 2000. The following buildings he has worked.
2000-2005 – High School – Building trades, Drivers Ed., Coop
2005-2018- Millikin and Northside Elementary Schools. PE
Before Geneseo he worked at the following schools from 1992-2000
DeKalb County Alternative High School, Creston Grade School, Rochelle High School and Cambridge Elementary and High School.
Mr. Thomas is a football coach at Geneseo High School. He has coached volleyball, basketball and baseball at the high school level.
Mr. Thomas was born and raised in Geneseo. He went to Black Hawk College, Northern Illinois University and St. Ambrose University. Mr. Thomas is married to Jodi Thomas and has a wonderful blended family of six children ranging in age from 16-22. Joe, Logan, Sam, Jane, Nick and Mary were all active in high school sports and three are college athletes. He enjoys watching his children participate in sports. In his free time he enjoys fitness walking with his best friend Jodi.

Todd Ehlert MSEd., CSCS, ATC, CAFS, MAPS, USATF Level 2
Mr. Ehlert has been teaching physical education and health in the Geneseo School district for ten years.  He is also involved with the middle school boys and girls cross country program and Director of Athletics for cross country and track and field.
Mr. Ehlert earned a Level One USATF Coaching Certification, through USA Track and Field, during the summer of 2016.  In the spring of 2016, Mr. Ehlert earned a certification in Movement Analysis Performance System (MAPS) from the the Gray Institute.  During the summer of 2014, Mr. Ehlert earned his Certification in Applied Functional Science (CAFS) also through the Gray Institute.
Before coming to the Geneseo School district for teaching, Mr. Ehlert worked for Hammond Henry Hospital as the certified athletic trainer for the Geneseo School district for three years.  He also worked as a strength and conditioning coach with a program called The Summit.  During this time he earned his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) national certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Mr. Ehlert taught physical education and health in Papillion, Nebraska at Papillion-LaVista High School and Papillion Junior High School for eight years before coming to Geneseo.  He was also the school districts certified athletic trainer during this time and had other various duties including coaching track and field, and being in charge of concessions.
Mr. Ehlert received a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Physical Educaiton, Health, and Athletic Administration from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.  During his time at Northwest, he was an assistant track coach, in charge of the fitness center, and taught various Physical Education activity courses.  Also during his time at Northwest he earned his Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) national certification from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
Mr. Ehlert received a Bachelor of Arts from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He earned a double major in Physical Education and Athletic Training and a minor in Biology.  During his time at Coe, he participated on the track and field team for four years where he was a four time conference champion, participated on the football team for two years, was a student athletic trainer for four years, and was the assistant track coach his fifth year.
Mr. Ehlert is from Keokuk, Iowa and went to Keokuk Senior High School.  While in high school he participated in football, basketball, and track.  He was an all-stater in track and field and was named the school’s most valuable athlete his senior year. During the summer in high school and college he was a lifeguard and was a water safety instructor teaching swimming lessons to the community.
Mr. Ehlert is married and has two children.  He spends his free time with his family, traveling, and participating in triathlons where he has earned USA Triathlon All-American honors four times.
Dan Rakestraw MS, MA
Mr. Rakestraw has been teaching in the district since 1997. During this time, he has taught Wellness, Health, Driver Education and Physical Education at multiple levels. He also coached football and track.
Before  teaching in the Geneseo District 228, Mr. Rakestraw taught for two years in the Galva District 224. He coached football, basketball and track.
Mr. Rakestraw earned his a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. In 2006, he earned a Master of Science with emphasis in Kinesiology from Western Illinois University. In 2008, he earned a Master of Arts with emphasis in Educational Administration from St. Ambrose University.
Mr. Rakestraw is married and has two daughters (Hannah 2003, Maddie 2008) and a dog (Bella 2012). He enjoys spending time with family, friends, dog and fat biking.
