{"id":2114,"date":"2018-03-24T19:20:28","date_gmt":"2018-03-24T19:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gcsdstaff.org\/eckwall\/?p=2114"},"modified":"2018-03-24T19:37:41","modified_gmt":"2018-03-24T19:37:41","slug":"fine-arts-day-and-rest-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gcsdstaff.org\/eckwall\/?p=2114","title":{"rendered":"Fine Arts Day and Rest of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello!<\/p>\n<p>I hope that you and your family are enjoying your Spring Break.\u00a0 I wanted to give you an update on events at Northside-all of which will take place at the High School-and also I wanted to share with you several additional opportunities that are available to your child.<\/p>\n<p>We had a wonderful Fine Arts Day!\u00a0 We had five acts between which students rotated in the morning.\u00a0 Anne Sammons discussed and demonstrated Weaving and Fiber Arts, Paul Terpening showed us all about Woodcarving, Haylee Gustafson introduced us to the world of Drama, Mike Stees showed us what it is to be a beekeeper, and Shannon Port allowed us to get a workout using \u201cPound.\u201d\u00a0 To end the day\u2019s festivities, our 4<sup>th<\/sup> and 5<sup>th<\/sup> grade instrument ensembles performed their version of \u201cLiza Jane\u201d for the school, followed by an ingenious and entertaining performance by <em>Guys In Ties<\/em>.\u00a0 Thank you to everyone who assisted in helping to make this day a very positive one for our students!\u00a0 Here is a link to the video playlist on Youtube:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCihoeeAhfvB7SaM0KC7zNqg\/playlists?disable_polymer=1\">2018 Northside Fine Arts Day Videos<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>4<sup>th<\/sup> and 5<sup>th<\/sup> grade students<\/strong> will be performing at All-Unit concert on <em>Monday,<\/em> <em>May 7<sup>th<\/sup>. <\/em>Please arrive by 6:45 for the 7:00 performance.\u00a0 We will soon begin rehearsing music for this concert. Practice tracks and music notation will soon be available on my district blog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5<sup>th<\/sup> grade students<\/strong> will be performing at the Recorder\/Band concert the following <em>Monday, May 14<sup>th<\/sup><\/em>.\u00a0 This concert will also take place at 7:00, and we ask that you arrive by 6:45.\u00a0 During this same week, following the concert your child will have the opportunity to \u201ctest drive\u201d several instruments.\u00a0\u00a0 During week of April 16-20 many of these instruments will be demonstrated to 5<sup>th<\/sup> grade students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All students <\/strong>will be beginning songs for our Spring Programs shortly after Spring Break.\u00a0 The concerts will take place on <strong>Wednesday, May 23<sup>rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 <\/strong>4<sup>th<\/sup> and 5<sup>th<\/sup> grades will perform at 9:00 a.m., 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grades at 10:15, and Kindergarten and 1<sup>st<\/sup> grades at 2:15.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are several extra opportunities available to your child:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All students <\/strong>have the opportunity to perform as part of the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce <em>Spring Open House &amp; Art Walk<\/em> on Saturday, April 21st from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Students do <em>not<\/em> need to be present for the entire event.\u00a0 Please have your child see me if he or she has a solo or small group musical piece that he or she would like to perform.\u00a0 I am also hoping to have all who are able to from our \u201cLiza Jane\u201d ensemble perform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students entering <strong>4<sup>th<\/sup>-7<sup>th<\/sup> grade<\/strong> are invited to participate in a Children\u2019s Choir workshop directed by Geneseo music teachers and future music educators. Students will rehearse for two hours on July 5<sup>th<\/sup>, 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 10th, and 11th.\u00a0 \u00a0Instruction will include vocal technique, theory, ear training, and preparation of concert music. The workshop will conclude with students performing with the adult community choir on Wednesday, July 11<sup>th<\/sup>. Registration forms are available <a href=\"https:\/\/gcsdstaff.org\/eckwall\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Childrens-Choir-Parent-Note-2018.pdf\">here<\/a>\u00a0and outside the music room.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current <strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup>-5<sup>th<\/sup> grade students-<\/strong>At First Lutheran this summer from August 13<sup>th<\/sup>-17<sup>th<\/sup>, and 19<sup>th<\/sup> students are invited to a week-long music camp.
