Under the direction of Daniel C. Stowe, the University of Notre Dame Glee Club has released the itinerary for their 2009 Fall Tour.  The Glee Club is one of the of the most renowned all-male choruses in the United States. They will feature a program of a cappella works that surveys a broad range of music form Medieval works to contemporary compositions for male chorus.  The group will be stopping in Geneseo, Illinois as part of the tour.

The program delivered in each performance is always filled with variety that highlights the Glee Club’s scholasticism, musicianship, and dynamic control as an ensemble.  “We want our audiences to receive an educational experience as well,” says director Daniel Stowe.

The tour’s program will feature music from the Renaissance, Classical, and even Romantic eras.  Sacred contemporary pieces may also be sung like Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria” for double men’s chorus – a signature piece of the Glee Club.  The program continues with an exciting second half of folk songs, spirituals, and barbershop arrangements from the musical The Music Man. As always, the Glee Club will conclude its concert with the greatest of all University fight songs, “The Notre Dame Victory March.”

The Glee Club continues in its ninety-fourth year having traveled during the Summer of 2009 on a tour of Guatemala, presenting concerts in Guatemala City, Antigua and many other Guatemalan cities.  Previous international tour destinations have included Europe (2007), Central America (2005), Asia (2001), and Israel (1997). On tour and on campus, the Glee Club has performed with the Jerusalem Symphony, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Washington Men’s Camerata, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Ronan Tynan, Vince Gill, and Dave Brubeck, and with the Glee Clubs of Harvard University, the University of Michigan, and the U.S. Naval and Military Academies. The group presents more than 80 performances each year that range from formal concerts on tour and on campus to shorter programs for University functions and other events.  The Glee Club 2009 Fall Tour will feature stops in Warsaw, IN; Milwaukee, WI; Ft. Wayne, IN; Grand Rapids, MI; Bloomington, IL; and Geneseo, IL.

Are you ready?  Less than one week until IMEA Auditions.

Here is the schedule…imea-audition-schedule-2009

Follow this procedure.

1.¬¨‚Ć Get up early.¬¨‚Ć Iron your dress clothes for auditions.¬¨‚Ć (Guys – dress pants, dress shirt, tie…go for the gold look.) (Girls – Skirt or dress.¬¨‚Ć Nothing too tight around your mid-sections so you can breathe freely.¬¨‚Ć Class act.)

2.  Go to the Geneseo Middle School and look at the audition selections and skills selected.  The earlier you get there, the more time you have to prepare.

3.  Mark your music with the cuts.

4.  Find your audition room.  Remember, you have two rooms to locate.  One for skills, one for prepared.

5.¬¨‚Ć If time before your audition…go home and practice.

6.¬¨‚Ć If no time to return home…go to warm-up room and practice.¬¨‚Ć (MS Choir Room – Junior Chorus) (MS All-purpose room – Senior Chorus)

7.  Arrive at your audition room 10 minutes before your audition time. (Prepared is first, then skills)

8.  Always be polite.  Say thank-you when your audition is complete.

9.¬¨‚Ć Make no excuses. Don’t say “I’ve had a cold all week.”¬¨‚Ć “I couldn’t sleep last night.”¬¨‚Ć I’m so nervous.¬¨‚Ć Just sing the best you can sing without apologies.

10. Do not comment on your audition when you leave the room.  Judges can hear most of what you say, even to friends in the hall.  You never know who is listening.  Wait until you leave site to reflect on your audition.

11.  Everyone is nervous.  It is ok for you to be nervous.  Just use your nervous energy to your advantage.  Think carefully and take your time.

12.  Good luck to all!
