ILMEA Audition Information Junior first/Senior second/Schedule third

JUNIOR VOCAL AUDITION INFORMATION:

1) Please be at your audition room five minutes before your scheduled time. If you are not at their scheduled time you will be skipped and not guaranteed an audition later in the day. The rooms are packed so it is imperative that we keep things moving. 2) Original copies are expected at all ILMEA events. Please be respectful of the composers and arrangers and purchase your music and use original copies.

Here are the audition selections for tomorrow.

Jr. Mixed Choir

  • Ave Verum Corpus: m. 22 – 29
  • Soprano/Alto –  Aurora Borealis: m. 33 – 49
  • Tenor/Bass – Battle Above the Clouds: m. 42 – 51
SENIOR VOCAL AUDITION INFORMATION:
1. Please be at your audition room at least five minutes before your scheduled time. If your student is not at their scheduled time they will be skipped and not guaranteed an audition later in the day.

2. Students should report first to the Prepared Pieces room, moving to the Skills room next. For example, on the schedule for Soprano I, the room assignment appears as 601(P)603(S). Students auditioning Soprano I should go first to room 601, then to 603. There always seems to be a few students confused about this, so please remind them.

3. When students report to audition, they will be asked for their ILMEA number, which is on the schedule Bob sent out next to each student’s name. The room monitor ask for this number, not the student’s name, so have them write it down and take it with them to the audition.

4. There will be original scores in the Prepared Pieces rooms for students to use for their audition. Please remind them not to take these with them after their audition (This happened last year, and we had to scramble to get another copy for the students who followed!). Students may use their own music if they have original copies, but no photo copied music will be allowed in audition rooms.

5.“Ezekiel” Start on Page 14 measure 45 End on Page 18 measure 60

6. “Prayer” measure 42, beat 1, to measure 54, beat 1. The required state piece is Ezekiel, measure 45, beat 1, to measure 60, beat 3. Scales are Major and Melodic minor. Triads are Major, diminished, and Augmented. Sight-reading will be one 4-measure exercise. Students should sing the excerpt without regard to the changing tempo markings. Students should establish a tempo and stay with it to the end of the excerpt.

The skills for auditions this year are:

Scales – Major and Melodic Minor

Triads – Major, Diminished and Augmented

There will be one sight reading example with the following guidelines:

      4 measures long

      Major Key – Bb, F, C, G or D

      Meter – 4/4

Notes – Whole, Half, Quarter, Eighth, Dotted Half, Dotted Quarter Rests – Half, Quarter, Eighth Intervals: M2/m2 or M3/m3 within diatonic scale, P4 and P5 from sol to do

Students may study the example silently or sing through it before performing for the judge.

ILMEA Blind Audition Script Room Monitor Instructions

Spoken in the Hallway:

Room Monitor: What is your name and audition number? (Monitor verifies information.)

Room Monitor: Have you read the posted directions? Do you have any questions?

Audition Room Cues:

  1. (To the judge) “This is student number _________________. Are you ready to hear the audition?” (Judge will confirm nonverbally when ready to begin.)
  2. (To the student) “The Audition Room CD will prompt you to move to through each section of the audition. Please begin when you are ready.” (Judge starts the Audition Room CD.)
  3. (After student finishes all sections of the audition) “Thank you very much.”
  4. If necessary, instructions upon leaving the room should be given at this time. For example, if there is a second audition room, please direct the student there.
